Course Overview

The General English program at ACTB is designed for international students who want to improve their overall English language proficiency in a supportive and engaging environment. Covering all levels from Elementary to Advanced, this program focuses on developing the four core skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—while also enhancing grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. 

 

The course is ideal for students preparing for further study in Australia, professionals looking to strengthen their communication skills, or individuals wanting to improve their English for travel and everyday life. 

What You Will Learn
  • Speaking & Listening: Build confidence in everyday conversations, presentations, and group discussions. 
  • Reading & Writing: Improve comprehension of texts and develop clear, structured writing skills.

Study Details
  • Location: 100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane QLD 4006 
  • Delivery Mode: Face-to-face, classroom-based learning 
  • Duration: Flexible study periods (minimum 12 weeks CoE required) 
  •  Intakes: Every Monday 
  • Schedule: Evening classes, Monday to Thursday, 4:30 PM – 9:30 PM 
Entry Requirements

This course is open to all international students who: 

 

  • Are at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment 
  • Hold a valid student visa or equivalent 
  • Have completed an initial English placement test (to determine the appropriate starting level) 
Course Structure
  • The General English program is designed around progressive learning levels from Elementary to Advanced. Each student’s study plan is tailored based on their placement test results and learning goals. Study breaks: 2 weeks per every 10 weeks of study. 
Assessment Methods

Students are assessed continuously through: 

 

  • Classroom participation and activities 
  • Speaking tasks and presentations 
  • Written assignments and reading comprehension 
  • Regular progress tests and 
Fees
  • Enrolment Fee: AUD $200 (non-refundable) 
  • Material Fee: AUD $15 per week (1–10 weeks) 
  • Tuition Fee (per week): 
  • 1–12 weeks: AUD $280 → Total $295/week 
  • 13–23 weeks: AUD $220 → Total $235/week 
  • 24+ weeks: AUD $180 → Total $195/week (includes insurance)

On completion, students can: 

 

  • Progress into Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs at ACTB 
  • Transition into higher education in Australia (subject to entry requirements)
