Course Overview

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support (CHC43015) prepares you to take on specialised roles within aged care, whether in residential, home-based, or community settings. 

 

This qualification is designed for support workers who not only provide individualised care but also take on responsibilities in service planning, leadership, and quality service delivery. You will learn to empower older people, coordinate services, implement interventions for those at risk, support families and carers, and provide dementia and palliative care. 

 

Graduates are also equipped to demonstrate leadership in the workplace, taking limited responsibility for the work of others while ensuring safe, ethical, and compliant practices. 

Articulation

Upon completion, students may progress into: 

 

  • Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021) 
  • Higher education programs in health, nursing, or social care (subject to entry requirements) 
Study Materials

All required learning resources, including unit workbooks, case studies, and digital tools, are provided as part of your enrolment. Trainers bring real-world aged care experience to connect theory with practice. 

Training & Assessment Methods

Training is delivered face-to-face at ACTB’s Brisbane campus (100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley). 

 

Assessment is practical and varied, including: 

  • Role plays and observations 
  • Workplace reflections 
  • Research and case studies 
  • Portfolios and projects 
  • Supervisor reports 

 

Students must complete 200 hours of work placement in a regulated aged care service to achieve competency. 

Course Details
  • Duration: 52 weeks (44 study weeks + 8 holiday weeks) 
  • Study Load: 20 classroom hours per week + approx. 5 hours self-study 
  • Work Placement: 200 hours minimum 
  • Delivery Mode: Face-to-face (classroom + workplace placement) 
  • Intakes: January, April, July, October 
Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites. However, ACTB requires that international students: 

 

  • Be at least 18 years of age 
  • Have completed Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) 
  • Demonstrate English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent, valid within 2 years) OR successful completion of General English (Advanced) / English for Academic Purposes (Upper Intermediate) 
  • Complete an LLN (Language, Literacy & Numeracy) test at orientation

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 18 units (15 core + 3 electives).
