OF COMMUNITY SERVICES

The Diploma of Community Services (CHC52025) prepares you for meaningful and rewarding roles in the delivery, management, and coordination of person-centred services within the community sector. 

This qualification reflects the responsibilities of community services workers who provide support to individuals, groups, and communities. At this level, you will develop specialised skills to work autonomously under broad direction, while also supervising other workers or volunteers. 

You will also learn to manage complex cases, deliver programs, lead teams, and provide tailored support to help people improve their personal and social wellbeing. Graduates are equipped to undertake case management, service coordination, and leadership functions in diverse community service environments. 

No occupational licensing, certification, or legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. 

Graduates may progress into: 

• Higher education degrees in social work, community services, youth work, or related disciplines (subject to university entry requirements) 

• Leadership positions within community services organisations 

All required resources are provided, including: 

• Unit workbooks and case studies 

• Digital resources 

• Access to practical scenarios and industry-based examples 

Training is delivered face-to-face at ACTB’s Brisbane campus (100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006). 

Assessment tasks are varied and may include: 

• Written assignments and projects 

• Case studies and reports 

• Role plays and observations 

• Presentations and portfolios 

• Supervisor feedback from work placements 

Students are required to complete 320 hours of supervised work placement to achieve competency. 

• Duration: 104 weeks (66 classroom based weeks + 16 weeks Work Placement + 22 holiday weeks) 

• Study Load: 20 classroom hours per week + approx. 10 hours of self-study per week

• Work Placement: 320 hours over 16 weeks

• Delivery Mode: Face-to-face (classroom + workplace placement) 

There are no formal training package prerequisites. However, ACTB requires international students to:

• Have demonstrated an IELTS level at score of least 6.0 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Upper Advanced or English for Academic Purposes Upper Advanced level or other alternative method to demonstrate English language equivalency as outlined in ACTB’s Enrolment Policy.
• Are at least the age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
• Have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent
• Are able to obtain a valid QLD Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and/ or an AFP National Police Check certificate with no criminal records reported/recorded prior to commencement of work placement if this is required by the work placement host. These documents are to be obtained by students at their own cost.

Please Note: All the students commencing this course are required to complete LLND to be conducted during the time of admission to assist ACTB to identify student’s needs for additional support during their study with ACTB.

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 20 units (12 core + 8 electives).

• CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people 

• CHCCSM017 Facilitate and review case management 

• CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
