Course Overview

The Diploma of Community Services (CHC52025) prepares you for meaningful and rewarding roles in the delivery, management, and coordination of person-centred services within the community sector. 

 

This qualification reflects the responsibilities of community services workers who provide support to individuals, groups, and communities. At this level, you will develop specialised skills to work autonomously under broad direction, while also supervising other workers or volunteers. 

 

You will also learn to manage complex cases, deliver programs, lead teams, and provide tailored support to help people improve their personal and social wellbeing. Graduates are equipped to undertake case management, service coordination, and leadership functions in diverse community service environments.

Articulation

Graduates may progress into: 

  • Higher education degrees in social work, community services, youth work, or related disciplines (subject to university entry requirements)

Training & Assessment Methods

Training is delivered face-to-face at ACTB’s Brisbane campus (100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006). 

 

Assessment tasks are varied and may include: 

  • Written assignments and projects 
  • Case studies and reports 
  • Role plays and observations 
  • Presentations and portfolios 
  • Supervisor feedback from work placements 

 

Students are required to complete 320 hours of supervised work placement to achieve competency. 

Course Details
  • Duration: 52 weeks (44 study weeks + 8 holiday weeks) 
  • Study Load: 20 classroom hours per week + approx. 5 hours of self-study 
  • Work Placement: 320 hours 
  • Delivery Mode: Face-to-face (classroom + workplace placement) 
Entry Requirements

There are no formal training package prerequisites. However, ACTB requires international students to: 

 

  • Be at least 18 years of age at course commencement 
  • Have completed Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) 
  • Provide evidence of English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent, valid within 2 years) OR successful completion of General English (Advanced) / EAP (Upper Intermediate) 
  • Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment during orientation.

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 20 units (12 core + 8 electives).

  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety 
  • CHCDEV005 Analyse impacts of sociological factors on people in community work and services 
  • CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice 
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people 
  • CHCCSM017 Facilitate and review case management 
  • CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
