Course Overview

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30125) prepares you for a rewarding career working with young children in regulated education and care services across Australia. 

 

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who support the wellbeing, learning, and development of children within approved learning frameworks. You will learn to nurture babies and toddlers, encourage play-based learning, support inclusion and diversity, and ensure children’s health, safety, and wellbeing. 

 

Graduates of this program are ready to work in roles across long day care, family day care, kindergartens, and preschools, either independently or under supervision, making a real impact on the lives of children and families. 

Articulation

Upon completion, students may continue their studies with the: 

 

  • CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, with credit given for overlapping units 
  • Higher education degree programs in early childhood or education, with possible advanced standing depending on university policies 
Study Materials

ACTB provides all required materials, including unit guides, workbooks, case studies, and access to real-world childcare resources. Trainers use practical examples and scenarios to help you connect theory to workplace practice. 

Training & Assessment Methods

Training is delivered face-to-face at ACTB’s Brisbane campus (100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley). 

 

Assessment is varied and may include:

  • Projects and portfolios 
  • Supervisor reports 

 

Students are required to complete at least 160 hours of work placement in a regulated early childhood service as part of this qualification. 

Course Details
  • Duration: 52 weeks (44 study weeks + 8 holiday weeks) 
  • Study Load: 20 classroom hours per week + approx. 5 hours of self-study 
  • Work Placement: Minimum 160 hours 
  • Delivery Mode: Face-to-face (classroom + workplace placement) 
  • Intakes: January, April, July, October
Entry Requirements

ACTB requires international applicants to: 

 

  • Be at least 18 years of age at commencement 
  • Have completed Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) OR 2 years of industry experience OR be of mature age with sound literacy and numeracy skills 
  • Demonstrate English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent, valid within 2 years), or completion of General English (Upper Intermediate) / EAP (Upper Intermediate) 
  • Hold a valid QLD Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and an AFP National Police Check (at student’s own cost) 
  • Complete an LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) test on orientation day
Course Structure

To achieve the qualification, students must complete 17 units (15 core + 2 electives).

  • CHCECE037 Support children to connect with the natural environment 
  • CHCECE038 Observe children to inform practice 
  • CHCECE054 Encourage understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures 
  • CHCECE055 Meet legal and ethical obligations in children’s education and care 
  • CHCECE056 Work effectively in children’s education and care 
  • CHCPRT025 Identify and report children and young people at risk
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting 
  • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
