CERTIFICATE III
IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30125) prepares you for a rewarding career working with young children in regulated education and care services across Australia. 

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who support the wellbeing, learning, and development of children within approved learning frameworks. You will learn to nurture babies and toddlers, encourage play-based learning, support inclusion and diversity, and ensure children’s health, safety, and wellbeing. 

Graduates of this program are ready to work in roles across long day care, family day care, kindergartens, and preschools, either independently or under supervision, making a real impact on the lives of children and families. 

Upon completion, students may continue their studies with the: 

• CHC30125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, with credit given for overlapping units 

• Higher education degree programs in early childhood or education, with possible advanced standing depending on university policies 

ACTB provides all required materials, including unit guides, workbooks, case studies, and access to real-world childcare resources. Trainers use practical examples and scenarios to help you connect theory to workplace practice. 

Training is delivered face-to-face at ACTB’s Brisbane campus (100 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley). 

Assessment is varied and may include: 

• Role plays and observations 

• Workplace reflections 

• Research and case studies 

• Projects and portfolios 

• Supervisor reports 

Students are required to complete at least 160 hours of work placement in a regulated early childhood service as part of this qualification. 

• Duration: 52 weeks (36 classroom-based weeks + 8 weeks Work Placement + 8 holiday weeks) 

• Study Load: 20 classroom hours per week + approx. 10 hours of self-study per week

• Work Placement: 160 hours over 8 weeks 

• Delivery Mode: Face-to-face (classroom + workplace placement)  

There are no prerequisites or specific entry requirements for this qualification. This course is available to all international students, and ACTB requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:

• Have demonstrated an IELTS level at a score of at least 6.0 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), a demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Upper Advanced or English for Academic Purposes Upper Advanced level or other alternative method to demonstrate English language equivalency as outlined in ACTB’s Enrolment Policy.
• Are at least the age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
• Have successfully completed Australian Year 10 or equivalent
• Are able to obtain a valid QLD Blue Card (Working with Children Check) prior to commencement of work placement.  An AFP National Police Check certificate with no criminal records reported/recorded may also be required by the work placement host. These documents are to be obtained by students at their own cost.

Please Note: All the students commencing this course are required to complete LLND to be conducted during the time of admission to assist ACTB to identify student’s needs for additional support during their study with ACTB.

To achieve the qualification, students must complete 17 units (15 core + 2 electives).

• HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting 

• HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Graduates may seek employment in roles such as: 

• Early Childhood Educator
