This qualification reflects the roles of individuals who apply highly specialised knowledge and skills in the field of organisational learning and capability development. In these roles they are required to generate and evaluate complex ideas; and to initiate, design, and execute major learning and development functions within an organisation. Typically, they would have full responsibility and accountability for the personal output and work of others.

This qualification may apply to leaders and managers in an organisation where learning is used to build organisational capability.

Candidates may enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating the potential to undertake study at the graduate level, including:

With a relevant Diploma or Advanced Diploma, or a relevant Certificate III or Certificate IV together with significant relevant vocational practice with a higher education qualification, together with relevant vocational practice with the related Graduate Certificate in Management (Learning), which will credit as four elective units towards this qualification (a candidate with this related qualification will be required to successfully complete the two core units and two further elective units to meet the requirements of the Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) with extensive relevant vocational practice, without formal qualifications.

*Electives may be changed at any stage at the discretion of the College.. The College will select electives based on the students’ needs and work context. Our current research indicates that a vast majority of our students will be seeking a career in leadership and management roles and may be engaged in human resource development. The electives above have been selected on this assumption.

Should the students wish to undertake a career development role; the electives will be substituted to suit their context.

Course Duration

Up to 54 weeks (including 14 weeks of holidays)

Delivery

This course is offered for up to 54 weeks full-time mode. The course is delivered face-to-face in a simulated workplace environment. Students attend 20 hours of class per week, which are a mix of theory and practical applications.

Entry requirements

Candidates may enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake study at graduate level, including:

  • with a relevant Diploma or Advanced Diploma, or a relevant Certificate III or Certificate IV together with significant relevant vocational practice
  • with a higher education qualification, together with relevant vocational practice
  • with extensive relevant vocational practice, without formal qualifications.

International students must also fulfil the following requirements:

  • Mature age (18 years and over)
  • IELTS 6 or equivalent (or evidence of having successfully completed a formal qualification at Diploma level or above in Australia)

Learning Pathways: On successful completion of this course, graduates may consider further study at a higher tertiary level within the vocational education and training sector.

Pathway options can be discussed with students upon completion of studies.

Articulation: Individual students who are seeking to continue their study at university should contact the prospective university upon completion of the course for any credit transfer arrangements.

Teaching-learning resources may include: study guides, textbooks, CD’s and DVD’s, handouts, electronic notes, web resources and reading material.

Students will learn leadership and management skills and techniques via teacher presentations, project work, practical exercises, individual studies, research, discussion, group work and presentations using industry-standard applications and materials/tools.

Assessment methods and tools may include: oral tasks (interview questions), written tasks (workbook, recognition of prior learning, tests, assignments, examinations), group work and discussions (case studies, role plays), project (workplace research project), and simulated or workplace performance (practical demonstration with observation checklists). Assessment results recognise student achievement against each competency.
